Ｅメール機関誌「方法」は日本の三名の方法主義者、中ザワヒデキ
(美術家)、松井茂 (詩人)、三輪眞弘 (作曲家) が発行する無料月
刊誌です。方法主義の宣言: aloalo.co.jp/nakazawa/method/
６月に起動した「方法マシン」の初公演がいよいよ行われます。詳

日本の詩の現在
松井茂、詩人
海外にも読者を持つ本誌で、日本の詩の現在について解説してお
きたい。日本の詩といったら、すぐに俳句を思い浮かべる人が多い
はずだ。しかし、日本の詩はそれ以外にもある。一般論としては、
まず定型詩と自由詩の二種類に分類できる。
定型詩は、伝統的な詩形だ。伝統とは、一八六八年（明治維新）
以前の歴史をさし、定型詩は短歌*と俳句*に分類できる。ただし、
俳句が隆盛となるのは、一八九〇年代以降のことだ。
自由詩は、非伝統詩をさす。例えば、音響詩、視覚詩、具体詩と
いった文字以外の素材を用いる詩も、自由詩に分類されている。さ
らに、現代詩という単語もある。広義の現代詩は、自由詩と同義に
用いられている。狭義の現代詩は、一九四五年（敗戦）以降の自由
詩をさす。
現在の日本には、短歌、俳句、現代詩の三種類がある。
新聞には、短歌と俳句は、週に一度、それぞれ専門欄が一頁分レ
ギュラーである。現代詩は、週に一度、専門欄が八分の一頁分レギ
ュラーである。テレビでは、公共放送で短歌と俳句の番組が毎週レ
ギュラーで放映されている。現代詩は、年に一度特集番組が放映さ
れる程度だ。雑誌では、短歌と俳句は、大手出版社からの刊行物も
含めてそれぞれ十誌以上ある。現代詩は、専門の出版社から五誌程
度だ。
近年状況が変化しつつあるとはいえ、この三者間の交流はほとん
どないのが現状だ*。
今回は、一般論として現状を整理、報告した。ちなみに私は、現
状に対する批評として、敢えて、短歌のサークルなどでも朗読を行
っている。
*短歌は「五・七・五・七・七」の三十一音節の詩。
*俳句は「五・七・五」の十七音節の詩。歳時記に則った季語（季
節の単語）を用いるというルールもある。
*日本の人口が現在、約一億三千万人。一説によると、俳人が三百
万人、歌人が五十万人、現代詩人は五万人います。日曜作家も含む
データらしい。

公開されました！ IAMASにあるホストコンピュータ「またりサー
バー」にアクセスすればいつでも、地球上のどこからでも、みんな
でまたりさまを楽しむことができるのです。さあ、お友達あるいは
ロボットと一緒に「テレまたり」で、秘境マタリ谷の人々のよう
に、朝までまたりさまをお楽しみください。
「テレまたり」最初のバージョンは柴田悠基さんによって開発され
ました。このバージョンでは８人までの人間、あるいはロボット・
メンバーによるプレイが楽しめ、またロボットの審判がいつもプレ
ーヤーの演算ミスをチェックしています。またユーザーインターフ
ェースの改良なども現在計画中です。

The Present Japanese Poetry

As this bulletin has readers also from abroad, I am
going to give an explanation of the present Japanese poetry.
Speaking of Japanese poetry, many people will call up haiku.
However, there are different kinds. Generally, Japanese
poetry can be classified into two categories: poetry with a
fixed form and free verse.
Poetry with a fixed form has a traditional verse form.
Here, the tradition means the history before 1868 (the Meiji
Restoration). Poetry with a fixed form can be classified
into tanka* and haiku*. Hoewever, haiku has been
flourishing only after 1890s.
Free verse is non-traditional poetry. For example,
poetry using materials other than letters such as sound
poetry, visual poetry or concrete poetry are also included
in free verse. Furthermore, the term "modern poetry" also
exists. In a broad sense, modern poetry has the same
meaning with free verse. In a narrow sense, it means the
free verse after 1945 (Japan's defeat in World War II).
There are three categories in the present Japan:
tanka, haiku, modern poetry.
In the newspapers, there are regular technical columns
of one full page per week for each tanka and haiku, while
one eighth page for modern poetry. On TVs, the public
broadcasting has weekly programs for each tanka and haiku,
while only one special program for modern poetry per year or
so. About magazines, over ten magazines for each tanka and
haiku are being published even by the biggest publishers,
while five or so for modern poetry by special publishers.
There is hardly any interchange between these three,
in spite of the changing circumstances in recent years*.
I sorted out and reported the present state as a
generalization. By the way, I dare to have been doing
poetry readings in the circles of tanka, etc., as a
criticism against the present state.
* Tanka is poetry with 31 syllables, "5, 7, 5, 7, 7."
* Haiku is poetry with 17 syllables, "5, 7, 5." There is a
rule that a season word in the glossary must be included.
* The population of Japan is about 130 million. According
to one report, there are 3,000,000 haiku poets, 500,000
tanka poets, and 50,000 modern poets, including Sunday
writers.

Finally I can introduce a virtual playing room specially for
the Matarisama called "Tele-Matari" on the internet! You
can play Matarisama with your friends or robots at any time
and at any place on earth, if you are connected to the host
computer "Matari-Server" at IAMAS in Japan. Please come
together with your friends to "Tele-Matari" and play or
rehearse Matarisama through the night like the people in
remote Matari valley.
The first version of "Tele-Matari" was developed by Mr.
Shibata Yuki. With this version you can play up to eight
human or robot players, and a robot umpire is always
watching your play (checking mistakes). Some other
expansions such as modification of user interfaces are
already being planned.
